Sherilyn’s Grade 2 Ballet Exam

Today marks another milestone in rascal #2’s diary. She sat for her Grade 2 RAD exam.  I think I was more excited and anxious than she was.  My 3 girls, they are all cool cucumbers who never seem to panic even in dire straits.  Bad, no? Well, there are pros and cons to being a cool cucumber.  I woke up early as usual, skipped exercising to get this dilly dallier ready, made sure she ate and drank the proper stuff so that she would not be too full and throw up when she danced. Had to let her skip drinking milk lately due to phlegm and only fed her with Manuka honey, fruits and a slice of cream crackers for breakfast today.  The ballerinas had to be at the dance centre by 10am today.

The 3 ballerinas in team A. The ballerinas in her class were split into 2 groups and her  group was tested first by one Ms Richards from overseas.

My graceful ballerina.  A whiny samseng she is but once she dons on her ballerina costume to shimmy and strut her stuff, oh my, she is instantly transformed into another sweet little girl, whom I really adore 🙂

Day in and out, this rascal has been practicing her dance movements very hard and I sure hope that she’ll pass.  And the good news for us parents is that their classes will be trimmed down from twice and thrice weekly to only once a week starting April through September this year, yippppeeeee!  And this gives our wallets a breather too 😉  Effective October 2013, the drilling and twice-thrice a week classes begin again for Grade 3 exam!  This has to go on until this rascal passes all 15 grades, which by then, she would have even started going to college!

Sherilyn’s Grade 1 Ballet Exam – 3 May 2012

The big day finally arrived yesterday, after 2 mock examinations, twice weekly classes for the past 1 year and lots of practices at home, not to mention a big hole on daddy’s pocket.  After a week long drought and extremely sweltering weather for the past 1 week, it poured like it never before yesterday, during our drive to the examination centre.  And shiats, we were caught in a mini flood and could not get down the car when we reached the place.  After waiting for 15 minutes in the car and no sign that the darn ferocious rain was going to ease  a bit, hubs got down the car with a teeny weeny half faulty brolly that was in his car, carried Sherilyn down… and next carried me down.  I had to laugh all the way when hubs carried me like a baby down the car. It’s been ages since he last swept me off my feet like a white knight, literally…  LOL!

Pix taken yesterday…

Sherilyn with M, who is the same age as her. They attended the same pre-school together, learn swimming together and her mum and I are childhood friends from the same school in Ipoh.

Budding ballerinas from the same class. M and Sher had a tough time doing a balancing act in that pose for the photographers 😀

Moments before going into the exam room.  That pretty lady on the right is one of their ballet teachers.

There are no pix of the ballerinas in action as no one else but the students are allowed into the room.

After the exam, we stopped by our favourite bak kut teh place to take-away.  Sherilyn had to get down the car to ease herself and daddy had to carry his princess so that she would not get wet. She was grinning from ear to ear I tell you, whilst her white knight was huffing away!

Hectic Life For A 7-Year Old

Wednesdays are always very hectic for Sherilyn. By the time she reaches home from school, it is already way past 2pm. After lunch, shower and lots of dilly dallying (with non-stop naggings from my mil and me for her to hurry up), it is already 4pm. By 5:30pm, she must eat something light for dinner and get ready for ballet class which starts at 6:30pm. After a few experiences with giving her rice and dishes for dinner before ballet class, I vowed that she can only eat bread before her ballet class on Wednesdays. This rascal has always been having a hard time finishing rice with dishes ever since her toddler days, so I figured that it’s best that she eats something that she likes on days when she has to rush for classes. Thus, she only eats bread with butter and jam before ballet class every Wednesday — something which she does not mind eating 3x a day, 365 days!

On days that Sher has a lot of homework to complete, she has to eat her dinner and do homework simultaneously, else she will not have much time left to do it when she comes back from ballet class.

A typical scene on a Wednesday evening… Sherilyn getting help from mah mah on her Mandarin homework from school and her quick dinner consisting of mah mah’s homemade bread with granny’s homemade pandan kaya and homemade strawberry jam.  She can wallop these 2 slices of bread in under 20 minutes vs 1 hour+ to eat rice with dishes.
