Baby C’s Eczema Flared Up Face

See how blemished and red the eczema has caused my poor baby’s face.  The eczema is so bad that her cheeks feel rough and I bet it must be painful too.  She also has mild cradle cap on her scalp and eye brows.  I removed the cradle cap from her eye brows by rubbing the brows with baby oil on a cotton wool.  As for the cradle cap / dandruff on her scalp, I am confident it will resolve by itself without any treatment as this happened to both Alycia and Sherilyn too when they were infants.

Hubby and I brought Baby C to the paed’s office yesterday.   The dr. prescribed her with Aqueus (spelling?) moisturizer, Betamethasone cream to get rid of the eczema (this is a potent cream and can only be applied thinly for 5 days) and Hydrocortisone (another cream for eczema which is not so strong and is to be applied if the eczema flares up again).

While I was waiting for my turn to see the dr, there were some aun-tees who were waiting outside the clinic.  They came over to see Baby C and commented how cute she is and they also commented that Baby C looks like a boy.  Oh well, I am quite blase about it coz almost everyone who saw her commented that she looks like a boy!   Anyway, these aun-tees gave me advices on using the natural way and non-medication way to treat the eczema.  Some recommended putting ‘sui fun’ (bits of fragrant rice powder made of fermented rice and screwpine leaves), Hazeline Snow cream and chilled overnight tea leaves on the affected part of the skin.  In the past, I had tried the ‘sui fun’ and Hazeline Snow cream for both Alycia and Sherilyn but nothing worked.  Over time, the eczema resolved by itself, though Alycia still has very mild eczema on her hands now.  I haven’t tried the overnight tea leaves yet but another aun-tee there told me not to apply this as some tea leaves may be bleached with brown coloring.  It’s really entertaining to hear all these aun-tees giving me all sorts of advises.

Anyway, Baby C’s cheeks are not so red and blemished today.  Hopefully it will be completely healed and will not flare up again.

Baby C who sweats easily loves wearing ‘hole-ly’ clothes as they are airy, cooling and comfy. Though they don’t look very nice, they are life-savers during the hot season. I hardly put on onesies on her anymore as the material is thick and causes more heat rash on her body. Even our paed recommends ‘hole-ly’ clothes for babies with heat rash.

  1. Hi ..
I had the same problem with my daughter. Being a first time mom, I refused to accept that my baby had eczema, and listened to all sorts of old wives tale to cool the skin, apply prickly heat, bath in chinese herbs, bitter gourd herbs, etc. All these made her skin worst and she was oozing all over. Lastly, only the cortisone and creams worked. Aqueos is quite thick and hard to apply. There’s a lighter version of it – Aqua cream which is much easier to apply. When the eczema clears, you can also try another cream Johnson soothing naturals lotion, available at selected Guardian stores. It’s very light and smells great. Get in touch with me if you want to know where to get Aqua cream, in bulk and cheap too. My baby was using 1 tub per week. She’s 2 now and her skin has improved a lot after I switched her to soy. I now use 1 tub per month. Take care and Baby C is really adorable, I feel so sorry to see her skin flare up. Hope she gets better soon.

  2. aiyo so sam thong la look at bb C… last time samuel oso like dat but not jesse, our paed recommended dermAid with QV n it reli helps, within 1day his eczema reduced alot! very effective on him, mayb u can try

  3. oh dear….poor baby C 🙁 just like vien’s cassie. i hope the eczema would go away soon. she looks so much like Sher in this photo 😀

btw…your phone line is up already?

  4. her skin looks really bad hor. i think its partly due to the hot weather. maybe u wanna consider having an air cond in the living room? hazeline snow and sui fun wont help with such a serious eczema.
anyway, ya baby c looks like a boy..eh hmm.. a boy for the next one?

  5. Cassie looked just like that before. Eh, I found out she’s really allergic to some food. I’ll blog about our eczema doc visit soon. We can compare notes. 🙂

  6. it is so red….with qiqi i had a lot of this problem too. Nothing works for her, not even creams. Thank goodness her nanny knows about using the some natural leaves from her garden (soak the leaves in luke warm water and wipe her face with it) and it heals like miracle. I dont remember the name of the leaves but will ask her for you tonite (not sure if she still have it in her garden. If yes, i’ll take a picture to post online but can be quite dangerous also if u use the wrong plant)

  7. ohh poor Baby C it must be very itchy and discomfort for her. Happended to my girl when she new born but never see paed as we tot it’s only heatiness. She got rashes on her head and full of her face. “Shui Fan” no use for that, at last we applied Calamine lotion to ease her itchiness. The rashes soon suside and dried up.

  8. my grandma told me that using the freshly urined diapers from the baby is very effective. freshly urined means while the diaper is still warm with the baby’s urine.

  9. Hope she will recover soon…

Now that the weather is so hot, it is a very a good idea to wear hole-ly clothes. She still looks adorable with the clothes 🙂

  10. Poor baby… so red.. hope it clears up soon. My boy had cradle cap when he was a bb too. I din do anything abt it and it went away as he grew older.

  11. poor baby..
last time my nephew had the eczema too, tried a lot of creams but none helped, but it gone after my mum brought him to have a mild sun bathe.

  12. Hi Shireen,I understand ur feelings now as I have went thru tis before cos my boy also experience de same during his bb time.I have done everything tat the aunties mentioned and I notice tat ‘Sui Fun’ works for my boy. Don’t worry wat u do is dun let bb C get hot. Wear more loss clothes so tat she will feel more cooling and comfy.

  13. Poor girl….hope it clears up soon enough. Btw, if the cradle cap on her scalp doesn’t clear up, can get Dentinox shampoo from Guardian. V good…use once/twice kau tim.

  14. Du dare to recommend anything to U, but do u know wat the causes of it? Sometimes, it can be breast milk or formula.

Yes, I know U very heart sick to see them at this condition. Yup the airy clothes is the best for BB as our weather seems hot. Get well soon to BB C. And U too need lots of rest as well.
