This year’s Mother’s Day celebration was a memorable one, filled with delicious food, thoughtful gifts, and simple moments shared with loved ones. We decided to celebrate with brunch at Hai Kah Lang in Seapark, PJ—a Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant in 2022 that we’ve come to enjoy. Having visited their other two outlets in KL previously (both known for long queues), we were pleasantly surprised that there was no line when we arrived around 10 a.m.
Hubby ordered his usual bowl of mixed seafood and fish noodles, while I went with their fried fish noodles in a creamy milky broth with wine, served without noodles as usual, just the way I like it. My MIL enjoyed the garoupa fish curry noodles, and Cass had a hearty bowl of tiger prawn tomyum noodles. Hubby also ordered several side dishes to share, including a refreshing ice plant salad with jellyfish in a creamy peanut sauce, baby squid, and a fish lips dish. I treated myself to my favorite sea bird’s nest coconut milk drink, which is always a delight.
After brunch, we made a detour to O&S coffee shop (just next to Hai Kah Lang) for takeaway: Yong Tau Foo and Chee Cheong Fun for dinner. Hubby couldn’t resist grabbing some fried banana fritters and fried lin ko with sweet potato and yam fritters too. Our food journey didn’t stop there—MIL had a craving for ‘woon jai ko’ kuih from Ah Han’s Kuih, so off we went to fulfill that. And of course, Cass, with her sweet tooth, asked for ice cream from the charming parlour next door. She had the strawberry soju flavor all to herself while hubby, MIL, and I shared a scoop of rum and raisin. The crunchy, thick wafer cone was the cherry on top.
What made this Mother’s Day even more special were the thoughtful gestures from my loved ones. Alycia gifted me my favorite Houjicha cake from BuTian Desserts, a specialty café known for their exquisite matcha and tea-based treats. She even got her grandma her favorite flourless orange cake from Nutmeg @ Bangsar Village II. Meanwhile, Cass, after her figure skating practice yesterday, followed hubby’s instructions to pick up a stalk of flower each for MIL and me at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. But honestly, I’d rather he spent the RM15 stalk of single carnation/rose on something else for me ?. RM15 for a stalk of flower is a total riff-off, don’t you think? ?
To all the mothers and mother-figures out there, I wish you a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day. To my beloved mom—thank you for everything, mum ?. May we all continue to be surrounded by love, warmth, and moments that nourish the soul.

Macha lovers must give BuTian a try. They serve premium matcha and Chinese tea and their matcha desserts are really to die for! The packaging for takeaway cakes is very well-thought of. There’s a piece of dry ice inside the box to keep the cake fresh.
