Sisterly Bonding: Alycia and Sherilyn’s Staycation at Four Seasons Hotel

As teenage sisters, our three girls rarely get time to spend together without the distractions of school and uni, extracurricular activities, and their own individual social lives.

Since Alycia is having a semester break and Sherilyn has several days off before she works part-time again next week, the timing was right for the two girls to have a sisterly staycation. Sherilyn works hard and plays hard too. She works for two days at Barcook Bakery and another two days at our neighborhood cafe (with awesome bosses) each week. And for the remaining 3 days a week, she either goes to her dance studio or goes out with her friends. This will be her routine until her SPM results are out and decides on what course to pursue.

Alycia and Sherilyn decided to plan a sisters-only staycation at Four Seasons hotel to catch up on each other’s lives and bond over fun activities. They have a one-night complimentary junior suite room from their aunt who came back from the UK to KL for a visit last December. Cass had to skip the staycation as she had to go to school.

Tea-time at the Executive Lounge @ Four Seasons Hotel on 12 April 2023.

Breakfast at the hotel’s coffee house on 13 April 2023.
They brought some snacks to the hotel for late night snacking.
Movie binging while binging on Korean noodles with kimchi and popcorn. Sherilyn drank so much coffee till she had insomnia and couldn’t sleep 🤣

It’s so fun to have sisters, right? Growing up with two brothers, I always wished for a sister or two to do all the sisterly things with me. With sisters, you have a built-in bosom friend, confidante, and a support system right at home.

Friday, 7 April 2023

Cass gave me a scare yesterday when she told me that she had a cold and headache. I told her to do a Covid self-test. The first time she did the Covid test, a faint line appeared on the ‘T’ window and seconds later the line went up and disappeared! I told her to do another test several hours later and it was a negative.

This morning she felt better but she did another Covid self-test just before leaving the house for school. Negative. Phew!

When she came home from school today, she told me that one of her classmates is down with Covid!

As of coming back from school today, Cass is feeling good with no more headache. She’ll be going for her figure skating class later.

Had this been the scenario two years ago, Cass and all of us at home would be ‘doomed’. We would be categorized as close contact and none of us could get out of the house for 14 days 🤪. I’m so glad that we don’t have to live those pandemic days anymore, with endless MCO, CMCO and RMCO and yet the number of cases were in the region of tens of thousands everyday.

Lunner for Cass today: air-fried turmeric Beacon chicken drummets and blanched broccoli. I also bought steamed pork, cauliflower and fried cabbage from our regular economy rice stall in the morning. Cass walloped six chicken drummets.

Of all the kitchen gadgets that we have, I find the air fryer the most useful. We use it every day, to toast bread, to reheat food and to grill chicken or fish. But I find my current air fryer a tad small for our family. I’m now eyeing a 2-basket air fryer so that more dishes can be whomped up simultaneously.

With rice added. Today I cooked a mix of organic wild black rice and 10-grain rice with Japanese sweet potato added. I love the glorious kaleidoscope of colours and textures in this meal.

Alycia and Sherilyn’s bonding time with granny in Ipoh today. Pix taken on my mum’s phone.

Mum treated them to a lavish lunch at V Life Cafe, a restaurant that serves healthy vegetarian food.
Alycia discovered this restaurant while cycling in the neighborhood this morning.
Yesterday they had dinner at Sushi Zento and lunch at Ipoh YMCA. Wish I was there to join them too!

The dish on the top right is my kind of meal – colorful, loaded with fiber and meatless.

Dehydrated apple slices.

For Ipoh standard, with a lower cost of living than KL, the prices are considered on the high side

But everyone enjoyed the food, with the people whom they love and that’s the most important part. The experience and the memories that the girls create with their grandparents are more valuable than any material possession or amount of money. Cherishing these moments and making the most out of them is what truly matters in life.

A & S

Our middle child is the cheekiest and most mischievous of the three girls, from the moment she announced her grand arrival 15+ years ago. She’s the loudest, most aggressive and most melodramatic. She has mellowed down a lot now compared to her younger days.  When Sherilyn is in a cheeky mood, she will tease everyone just to stoke some wicked laughter. She especially likes to disturb her older sis who is quite aloof and a polar opposite from her.

Here, she’s making fun of how her che che looks wearing a cap. Alycia only wears a cap when she plays tennis and she’s just finished tennis lesson. I find it really hilarious as Sherilyn is only laughing herself while Alycia is super pissed with her mocking and about to lash out laser on her 🤣.

This cheeky fella likes to scoff at her sister’s sense of fashion too, like when her sister wears some bright colored oversized Sweden soccer jerseys or some Korean style checker jackets.  I must say that someone sure has a quirky sense of fashion which makes my eye roll sometimes! 🤣

And it takes a lot of skill to snap this photo before the two realized it. After I clicked on the snap button on my phone, the wicked one realized it and need I say more? 😆

Have a great weekend peeps!

The Girls Are Home!

My two big babies are finally back home after a 9-day adventure in Hong Kong without their parents bossing around them.  So glad to have them home.

Alycia and Drama Queen with their ground assistant and Drama Queen avoiding the paparazzi:

With travel assistance request (which is a FOC service), the girls’ passports were safe-kept by the air-stewardess during the flight. On ground, the passports together with the children will be handed over to the parents / kin. Names of parents / kin must be given to the Airlines. I only realized today that with a ground assistant, Alycia and Sherilyn’s passports were not even stamped in KLIA and Hong Kong Airport.

Home sweet home finally:

BSF (Best Sisters Forever):

The girls’ last dinner in Hong Kong ~ a sumptuous grilled lobster and shabu-shabu meal prepped by their loving koo ma.

We reached home at 10-ish p.m. last night. The girls unpacked their loot, comprising of 80% junk food, albeit some are good quality and ‘healthier’ snacks like organic pop corns, Royce chocolates and some Japanese jelly and chewing gum.  We had supper of Burger King, bought from KLIA.

When a tween and a teenager go on a vacation without their health freak mom and dad controlling them, you can be rest assured of luggage bags bursting with snacks, toys and electronic gadgets.

Health freak mom would like to try one stick of Pocky Squeeze, just. one. stick. only ok, coz this isn’t available in Malaysia yet (?).

Drama Queen’s favorite Japanese orange chewing gum, costing over HKG50 a bottle.  And my favorite almond cookies; the girls also received a packet of emoji chocolates from koo ma:

Too cute ~ Royce Decoration Ball, a X’mas tree decor that comes with Royce chocolates inside the ball; Japanese jelly (the girls favorite jelly):

Luggage bags scattered on our living room floor; guess the bags will be lying there as we will need to pack again today for our trip back to Ipoh tomorrow and then to Singapore next week.

I’d like to say a BIG thank you once again to my eldest SIL and BIL for all the gifts, love, care and time showered on the girls during their stay in Hong Kong.

Alycia & Sherilyn’s Adventure In Hong Kong

Thank you to Drama Queen, I get lots of updates, photos and videos from her everyday on her adventure in Hong Kong with Alycia.

Two days ago, they went hiking with their uncle B.

Enjoy the pix:

Yesterday they went to Disneyland. This marks Alycia and Sherilyn’s second visit to Hong Kong Disneyland. Their first visit to Disneyland was 8 years ago.  This is the girls’ 4th visit to Hong Kong.

The sisters goofing around:

They went up this gut churning ride. I would have puked and gotten a stiff neck had I gone up this ride. Can you spot the 2 girls?

Eating ice-cream, with cousin E.

They spent the entire day in the happiest place on earth! Wish I was there too.  Exactly two years ago on 8 Dec 2015, Cass and I were at Disneyland. How can time fly by so so fast without me even realizing it?!

Munching on Mickey head shaped waffles.

Today is the girls’ grandma’s birthday and there will be another grand celebration.

I can’t wait to see Alycia and Drama Queen again on Monday next week.    I pray that they will have a smooth flight back home.

Alycia Turns 14 Today

Fourteen years ago today, I was the happiest woman alive on earth.  I finally met my long-awaited baby.  After years of battling  PCOS, infertility and fertility treatments, I held my bundle of joy for the first time. It was the best feeling ever.

The 9 months of my pregnancy was fraught with stumbling blocks one after another: a German measles scare, horrible round-the-clock morning sickness, spotting for 3 months, an ultra sensitive uterus which rendered me to be put on partial bed-rest until the 35th week and much more.

I was only truly happy and believed that I was having a baby when I finally met my precious baby.  I remember very vividly my baby’s cries when she was first delivered via c-section. When our anesthesiologist friend (Dr PK Wong) placed her on my chest, she stopped crying immediately, as if she recognized my soothing voice. And she winked at me!  This beautiful baby with skin as fair as snow, rose bud red lips and sweet deep dimples captured my heart right away. I was completely besotted with her and since that day, I was set to be her slavery mom for life.  And there will never be any regret.

This year Alycia gets to celebrate her birthday in Hong Kong again with her doting aunt (hubs’ eldest sister), uncle, grandma and Sherilyn.  Three years ago, she celebrated her birthday in the air on her flight to Auckland and two years ago she celebrated her birthday in Hong Kong.

These are the birthday celebration pix taken today in Hong Kong:

The girls’ koo ma treated them to a buffet lunch with a super impressive spread of international gastronomical fare.

Wish I was there too!

The 2 sisters monkeying around:

With doting grandma:

Happy birthday my dearest precious baby Alycia. You will always be mummy’s special little one.  You’re one year older today and I pray that you’ll be one year wiser too. May you forever be blessed with good health, happiness, a kind and compassionate heart and lots of  good luck chasing you 💕😘💋

Bon Voyage

Despite having a late night yesterday doing last minute shopping at the shopping mall and only hitting the sack way past midnight, I managed to jump out of bed at 4:45 a.m. today.

Alycia and Sherilyn’s flight to Hong Kong was at 10:30 a.m. today.  As it’s their first time traveling alone without any accompanying adult, we had to be at the airport at least 2 hours before departure time.  Everything went smoothly and we reached the airport at 8:30 a.m.

While the hubs parked his car, I took the luggage bags for cling wrapping. Then did the check-in.

Looking for counter H for Cathay Dragon:

The girls received a special ‘Travel Assistance Request’ pass for airport staff to assist them until they reached the departure gate.  I requested for this service via our ticketing agent who is based in Ipoh.  I was told by the agent that the request may not be updated at the airport system and this was what happened this morning. Upon showing the check-in staff the confirmation from our ticketing agent, the request was only keyed into the system.

Within an hour, the airport assistant came to bring Alycia and Sherilyn to the departure gate.

We had breakfast at PappaRich before sending the girls off:

My ‘precious baby’ will turn 14 in 2 days.  She always gets to travel overseas on her birthday!   The char koay teow at this PappaRich outlet is super delish.   And that’s one of the reasons why we have to pay much more at this outlet than at other outlets, I guess.

Seated in front of us was Datuk Jimmy Choo, world renowned shoe-maker.  And this paparazzi in me just had to furtively snap a picture of him 😁

Saying good-bye with big hugs to my two big babies. They don’t seem to miss me much though 😥

Other than a 30-minute flight delay, everything went very smoothly for Alycia and Sherilyn today, praise God. I’m very sure the two sisters will have a swell time traveling and bonding together, though I know  my audacious and mischievous middle child (she’s got her dad’s DNA for sure) will annoy her po-faced and serious sister  to no end. She’s already Whatsapp-ed me a video of her sister sleeping on the MRT and I’ve chided her for being so evil.

Arrived in Auckland!

Here’s a picture of A & S with their mama upon arrival at the airport in Auckland about 3.5 hours ago.

Thanks to my bil who waited patiently at the airport.  The flight was delayed by 1.5 hours and by the time they were out, it was already close to 2am Auckland time.  Thank you also to him for keeping us all updated with pictures sent via our group chat in Whatsapp.

As usual, the drama queen must have some drama on the plane la.  She messaged me in Facebook just a moment ago, telling me that her lips were burning when she was eating her dinner on the plane.   Here’s our Facebook chat.  She also sent me a voice message…

To be continued with more pix of A & S in Auckland tomorrow… I really need to get my sleep now. It’s been a very tiring day for me today.  I also had a major heart-attack  when I could not find our passports anywhere just now!

Watery Porridge For The Fussy Rice Pot

This is the kind of ‘watery porridge’ that my fussy rice pot likes to eat, as  mentioned in my earlier post.

Alycia likes it that the rice grains still look, feel and taste almost like rice, just like how rice is eaten with soup.  If the consistency is thick, she finds it gross and hard to stomach!

This is the ‘watery porridge’ that I cooked for the kids’ dinner last night. I used one whole Ipoh ‘yim kook kai’ (salt baked chicken), carrots and sweet potatoes to cook the porridge.  And guess what? The fussy rice pot could not be happier with her watery porridge and she ate it again for lunch today. Since there was still some porridge left, she told me that she does not mind eating this for dinner as well tonight! LOL!  But of course they ain’t going to eat just porridge alone again.  I will be cooking some dishes to go with the porridge 🙂

My 2 Underaged Store Assistants

I almost flipped when I saw my stock at the door yesterday. My husband needed a trolley to push the boxes of stock back. There were over 100 pieces of Doomagic pillowcases, Disney Storybook Pillows, Sesame Street Sunglasses, Thomas Train sets, headbands, clothes and many more. I just didn’t know how to get started. But I had a light bulb moment again *ting ting!@@* Since Alycia had just finished her final exam, I roped both my older girls in to help me and they were excited, really excited and happy. Each time my stock of kids’ clothes and kids stuff arrive, they will be more excited than me.

Here you go, my 2 earnest store assistants helping me and I must say that they are really good, even Sherilyn… who managed to help me count my Doomagic pillowcases and the figures all tallied with my record!

After a hard day’s work, I rewarded them with something that they chose from my stock – Disney seals for them to do painting / stamping.

The parcels all ready at the door step, for the postman to collect them today. This is just 1/3 of the stock. I have some more stashed inside my cupboard and some lying in the living room When my soon-to-arrive stock comes next week, I will put them into pos laju flyer bags. I’ll bet my 2 earnest helpers will be more than glad to help mummy out *thank God for giving me girls!!*

Do check out my online store website, Old And New Stuff For Sale or my Facebook page (Facebook is more updated with new collection!) for trendy ladies and kids clothing and cool kids stuff at prices you will love!

Sherilyn’s Best Friend

There was a lantern party to celebrate mooncake festival at Sherilyn’s pre-school 2 weeks ago. The pre-school holds this party every year. The kids, their parents and the teachers will walk round the neighborhood holding the lanterns and then there will be a party inside the school. It’s a party that my girls look forward to attend every year.

At the party, I finally met Berlyn in person. Berlyn is Sherilyn’s best friend and I also had the chance to meet Berlyn’s mum and her entire family. It was great chatting with her and talking about our 2 vain pot daughters who call each other very often.

Birds of a feather flock together – see the 2 vain pots?  Will they be best friends forever?   Till today, I still remember my pre-school best friend’s name but we had lost contact with each other for decades. Hmm, time to look for her in Facebook!

Future Chefs

Since young, Alycia has a strong interest in culinary. She loves food and she loves cooking too. In fact, she loves watching Jamie Oliver, Anthonay Bourdain and AFC with me 🙂 If there’s anything that she truly loves to do, it has got to be cooking, painting and drawing. Well, swimming too 🙂

Here, she’s helping koong koong cook chicken stew….

… helping granny make crispy toasted cranberry french loaf slices

… Sherilyn and Alycia helping koong koong make pandan kaya. Later, there was a tug of war over the wooden ladle!!

… helping koong koong squeeze pandan leave juice….

I wonder if she will follow her daddy’s foot steps and take up a course in Hotel & Catering and Hotel Management. I won’t be surprised if she does.

Clandestine Eating

Whenever Alycia and Sherilyn (and even me!) want to eat junk food and Baby is having lunch or dinner at the dining table, we all have to go into secret hiding to eat in peace.  Baby is now not a baby anymore.  She has learned to love eating junk food – ice creams, cakes, biscuits, keropok, chips, etc, etc.  Who doesn’t like junk food eh?  They taste good and you get a rush from gorging on them haha!

Here, Alycia and Sherilyn are having a feast with ice-creams and they are hiding in the wet kitchen LOL!  I have to stand there on guard, lest the 2 monkeys try to creep out and tempt Baby. Yup, they just love tempting their baby sister, aargggghh!!!

Desa Fishing Sport

2 Sundays ago, hubs brought Alycia and Sherilyn fishing at Desa Fishing Sport @ Taman Danau Desa. I didn’t follow as Baby was taking her nap. Even if she wasn’t naping, I would not have followed as the weather was sweltering and that place is not a place for toddlers to go to. Albeit terribly hot and they came back with lobster red skin and soaked with sweat to the skin, Alycia and Sherilyn enjoyed themselves to the max. It was their first time fishing real fish and prawns (not toy fish and sea creatures). With around RM38 per pax (I think), they managed to fish out 4 huge prawns….

After fishing, hubs brought the girls swimming. Ah, what a fun-filled day for the girls who kept announcing “what a fun day we’ve had!”

And the poor fresh prawns landed in the pot for our dinner….. steamed fresh prawns with ginger.

Holy Smoke, Guess What This Is?

Dancing Girls

2 Sundays ago, Sherilyn went for her mock ballet exam. On that Sunday, we were earlier invited by Jasmine to attend Shan Rae’s 2nd birthday party.  Too bad we could not attend. Shan Rae and Baby C share the same birthdate, i.e. 9 April 2008! It’s quite rare to find someone who shares the same birthday as you eh?

Here’s my Princess Wannabe in her ballet costume, with her hair tied up in a bun. The first time I tied a bun was exactly a year ago… for Alycia who had to sit for her mock ballet exam. After the exam, she quit ballet. Her interest in ballet waned a few months into ballet class.

Instead, Alycia prefers hip hop dance and can move and gyrate her body pretty well too 😀

Both Alycia and Sherilyn can do ballroom dancing pretty well too…. the cincai, free-style ballroom dance that is 😀

Very soon, Baby will join her jie jies in the dance….

HEALTH FREAK MOMMY
