The Curious Case of My Disappearing Smartwatch

Have you ever lost something in your own home — a place you know inside out — and despite turning everything upside down, it’s still nowhere to be found? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me three weeks ago. And the object of this frustrating little mystery? My smartwatch.

It all started one morning when my hubby was folding his clothes on our bed. Like I always do, I had placed my smartwatch next to me while I slept. It’s a habit I’ve kept for over a year — I like glancing at the time without needing to reach for my phone.

That morning felt like any other until around 10:30 a.m., when I was getting ready to go out. I reached for my smartwatch, only to realize it was gone. Thinking I had somehow knocked it off, I began the search.

And when I say I searched, I mean I searched everywhere.

Under the pillows, inside the pillowcases, behind and under the heavy king-sized bed, inside the duvet cover, in every possible crevice a smartwatch could slip into. I even pulled the whole bed out, sweating buckets in the process. Still — nothing.

Then I remembered something — my hubby had folded his pile of clothes on the bed that morning. Could he have unknowingly scooped up my watch with his clothes? I quickly called him at work. He said he didn’t see the watch but did remember hearing something drop… though he couldn’t figure out what it was and didn’t think much of it.

And just like that, my 1-year-old Xiaomi smartwatch vanished — poof — into thin air.

Since then, I’ve continued my search every day, hoping it would somehow show up. But so far, it remains stubbornly missing. Maybe it slipped into a black hole? A portal to Narnia? Folded itself into a T-shirt sleeve and is now living a secret life at the back of a wardrobe?

Finally, I gave up waiting and bought the same smartwatch again — from the same seller on Shopee. That’s how much I like this particular model. It’s user-friendly, syncs smoothly with an app on my phone, uses magnetic charging, and has tons of watch faces to choose from. And the best part? It only costs around RM100. My old one had a dark grey band, while my new one is off-white — a refreshing change!

But you know what they say — these things have a funny way of showing up when you’ve stopped looking. I have a feeling that one random day, maybe while spring cleaning or reaching into a laundry basket, the lost watch will resurface and I’ll have a good laugh (or a faint scream).

Have you ever experienced something like this? A mystery lost and found moment? If you have, I’d love to hear your story — it might just give me hope that my runaway smartwatch is still lurking somewhere, waiting to be found.

My new Xiaomi Mibro C2 smartwatch.
