After a grueling week of late nights and endless work for her architecture degree, Sherilyn finally completed her latest assignment. The project had consumed her time and her beauty sleep for what felt like an eternity. With the submission deadline behind her, her first order of business was to catch up on some much-needed rest.
Once she was well-rested, Sherilyn headed straight for the kitchen to prep the ingredients to make dumplings. While she loves to cook and bake from scratch, the demands of her studies have made it difficult to find the time. On this particular occasion, she opted for the convenience of readymade wantan wrappers instead of making her own dough for the dumplings —a small concession to a busy student’s schedule. In the past, she used to make dumpling dough from scratch.
With two punnets of Berkcious minced pork, along with chopped Chinese cabbage, black fungus, spring onions, chopped garlic, chopped carrots, and some simple seasonings, she mixed up a flavorful filling. Sherilyn is incredibly good with her hands and always knows how to turn a few simple ingredients into something delicious. For over an hour, she sat patiently wrapping the dumplings, her iPad propped up to keep her company with a drama playing in the background.
This little culinary session was more than just making a meal; it was a form of therapy. It was a moment of peace, a return to a favorite hobby after a period of intense stress. Watching her find this small pocket of joy reminded me of the importance of taking a break and indulging in the things that bring us comfort.
