Y2K Fashion Is Back

The years from 1999 to the early noughties were some of the most happening and eventful years of my life. Many events occurred in those few years, and I will never forget those cute Y2K baby tees that were such a hit back then. I had plenty of these super tiny tees, which I paired with denim mini skirts and denim shorts.

My hubby and I registered our marriage in 1999.  The wedding ceremony was held in May 2000, and then I discovered that I had PCOS in late 2000. That was the watershed event that turned me into a low-carb, high-protein fitness freak to overcome PCOS. The year 2000 was very eventful. In late 2000, I resigned from the bank after 8 years to take on the role as PA to a distinguished Dato’.  The pay was very good, but life was super hectic, and I worked almost 7 days a week. Even when I went on leave, I had to answer my boss’ calls and messages on work. My spaghetti strap camis and casual clothes were hardly worn as I was in suits and high heels most of the time.

After a tumultuous year undergoing fertility treatments (including a surgery to treat PCOS), I finally conceived Alycia in March 2003, my birthday month!  But the entire 9 months of carrying Alycia were fraught with pregnancy problems, multiple times of threatened miscarriage, and severe morning sickness during the first trimester. I had no choice but to take No Pay Leave to bed rest at home on the advice of my gynecologist. My office suits and baby tees were untouched for almost a year. I was lying on the couch the whole day, and watching almost every TV program showing on Astro. Every day seemed to pass by so slowly when I was doing nothing but lying on the couch, and the only time I got out of the house was to the doctor’s clinic for jabs and check-ups.

Fast forward to twenty-two years and three daughters later, I don’t have the time to be idle now. I hardly sit on our couch for more than a minute, and our TV is underutilized.  Ever since hubby bought the wide-screen LCD TV a few years ago, we hardly ever turn it on, and I don’t even know how to operate the TV!  I shrank back to my pre-pregnancy weight a few years ago; in fact, I am back to my teenage weight!  I can still wear all my pre-pregnancy clothes and cute rhinestone baby tee, something that I am proud of!

I am glad that I kept some of my favorite Y2K mesh tops from over two decades ago, as this fashion has officially hit rewind. The most exciting comeback is the baby tee and cropped tops. These insanely cute fashion tops are everywhere, and I am still very much in love with them as they pair effortlessly with just about any bottom.  Y2K clothes can add a touch of nostalgic charm to your wardrobe, especially if you wore them during that era.  Does the Y2K fashion still appeal to you?
