All-Nighters & A Girl On A Mission

So Sherilyn’s back at it again — pulling yet another all-nighter. For the past three days, she’s been consumed with another assignment, this time involving hours of detailed drawing. She’s hardly slept, skipped showers (don’t judge her!), and has been drawing from morning till the wee hours of the next day — first in the dry kitchen, then migrating to Alycia’s room late at night.

Because of her drawing sessions, we’ve had to work in the dark in the dry kitchen (thanks to her LED-lit drawing board). To top it off, she somehow manages to draw while playing movies on her phone. I have no idea how she can focus on both — pure multitasking talent, or maybe just sheer deadline panic!

Watching her juggle so many roles leaves me exhausted — rushing assignments without sleep, heading off to her dance studio for classes and rehearsals, and then to her Saturday part-time job at a café. And it’s not just any café work — she’s now a barista, teaching other staff how to brew coffee and create beautiful latte art.

Her matcha and coffee? Absolutely top-notch. She uses premium coffee beans, a grinder, filters, a scale for her matcha powder, and a special Japanese whisk with bristles. The level of detail and care she puts into her brews is truly impressive. Meanwhile, here I am just sticking to my instant coffee and loose-leaf green tea — no fuss, no flair!

Oh, and some good news — Sherilyn’s PTPTN loan has finally been approved! Although it’s RM4,000 less due to an earlier submission error, we’re still thankful. Every little bit helps. She’ll have to repay the loan after graduation unless she earns a First Class Honors degree — in which case the loan will be converted into a scholarship.

That’s our hope — and I’m praying hard for it. She’s working so hard for her Architecture degree, and I truly hope her sacrifices will pay off. This girl is a fighter — may all her late nights, burnt-out days, and perfectly brewed matchas and coffee lead her to something extraordinary.

Sherilyn sat here from morning till dark, then migrated to Alycia’s room in the late evening to continue drawing in the dark.

Sherilyn prepped this simple and healthy yogurt bowl for her breakfast, topped with fresh mangoes, hazelnuts, her homemade nut + dark chocolate butter, yellow passion fruit, and soaked chia seeds.
