My globetrotting eldest daughter, Alycia, is on the move again — and I’m honestly struggling to keep up with her! She had just returned from a work trip to Sabah and Sarawak, and with barely a day to rest and catch her breath, she was off again — this time to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with her three university mates.
This girl clearly has wings on her feet!
True to form, she’s been keeping me updated every step of the way — from the moment she arrived at KLIA to her smooth landing in HCM. She even sent me a photo of the yummylicious burger she had on her MAS Airlines flight. According to her, it came with two juicy beef patties and was absolutely delicious. Who knew plane food could look that good?
Her food adventures kicked off the moment she landed. On their first day, the girls indulged in a hearty bowl of beef pho at a Michelin Selected 2023 & 2024 restaurant — and the price? Only RM16! Alycia had the wagyu beef pho, while her friends went for the wagyu hot pot. For comparison, even a basic bowl of pho in KL starts at RM25, and wagyu? Easily double that. It’s safe to say they were eating like royalty without breaking the bank.
Later that night, Alycia had a Vietnamese jelly dessert for just RM12. And today’s foodie highlight? A classic banh mi for lunch — the famous Vietnamese baguette sandwich, fresh, flavourful, and oh-so-satisfying.
Everything she’s shared so far has made me so tempted to book my own food trip to Vietnam! The affordability, even at Michelin-recognized restaurants, is incredibly appealing. It sounds like the perfect travel destination — rich in culture, kind to the wallet, and absolutely brimming with delicious food. Maybe my next holiday will be to Vietnam… and then Japan and Korea after that? A girl can dream!
To my dear Alycia — I hope you’re enjoying every moment of your well-deserved holiday. After all the hard work and travel for your part-time job, this break with your friends is just what you need. Please stay safe, take care, and come home safely. I’ll be counting the days until I see you again — see you next Monday!
