Yesterday’s lunch was exactly the kind of meal I enjoy — simple, clean, and non-greasy. While I was at the chicken rice stall getting roast chicken breast for Cass, I decided to get RM5 worth of lean char siu for myself. No rice, no sauces — just the char siu, which I wrapped in organic butterhead lettuce leaves for a light and satisfying meal.
Most people might not consider this a “proper lunch,” but for me, it’s perfect — not oily, not salty, and not sweet. I love the natural flavours of food without all the heavy seasoning. Sometimes I switch it up and use lean roast pork instead — equally delicious when wrapped in fresh lettuce!
This humble little chicken rice stall, run by a friendly Thai man, is a real gem in the neighbourhood. His roast chicken, roast pork, and char siu are not only tasty but also the most affordable around. I find myself going back every other day — it’s my go-to spot when I want something convenient yet not overly indulgent.
It might be a plain meal to some, but to me, it’s just right.
