My Three Daughters’ Different Takes on Public Transport

Of my three girls, it’s fascinating to see how differently they each view public transport. Alycia, my eldest (the ‘princess’), has always been the one who flat-out refuses to take the LRT or bus. She prefers the comfort and convenience of a private ride—understandably so—but it does make logistics a little trickier sometimes. And the cost too!

Sherilyn, my middle child, is the exact opposite. She’s open to taking the LRT or bus to and from university, especially if she’s not in a rush. She even has a transport app on her phone and knows which bus goes where and at what time. She’s a street-smart, independent girl—always quick-witted and, I must admit, sometimes a little too sarcastic for her mom to handle!

Cass, my youngest, has only recently started venturing out on her own using public transport, and she’s loving the newfound freedom. She takes pride in figuring out the fastest and most efficient routes using a mix of shuttle buses, LRTs, and public buses. What impresses me most is her maturity—she tries her best to avoid using Grab because she knows how expensive her figure skating training is and wants to save money. She’s learning to be financially aware, and that alone makes me proud, but worried each time she takes public transport.

Each daughter is unique, and I’m thankful they’re growing into strong, smart, and sensible young women—one train or bus ride at a time.

I made this simple and quick soup for Cass recently, as she wanted to eat something plain and soupy when she came home from school. I used Beacon frozen chicken soup and threw in some Beacon wanton, foo pei, and siew pak choy. This is my kind of comfort food – healthy, not salty, not oily, and easy on the stomach and digestion.
