A Durian Date on a Hazy Sunday

Yesterday was another rare lunch date with hubby—just the two of us again. With everyone else occupied, it felt like a mini getaway in the midst of a bustling Sunday.

My MIL had an outing with her sisters-in-law, Alycia was off glamping with her course mates at Glamping @ Wetland Putrajaya, Sherilyn was immersed in yet another dance competition, and Cass, as always, was at her second home—the skating rink.

After dropping his mum off at his aunt’s house in Bandar Utama, hubby spontaneously decided to swing by his friend’s durian pop-up stall nearby. His friend sells premium pesticide-free Raja Kunyit durians (similar to Musang King) brought in from Kelantan. That unplanned stop turned into an indulgent durian lunch!

Under the scorching, humid, and very hazy mid-day sun, we sat by the roadside at almost 12 noon, devouring durians while a large fan blew at us, making the experience surprisingly bearable. There were disposable gloves and bottled water too—making the setup durian-feast friendly. We had two durians, and the bill came up to around RM170+ — but it was absolutely worth it.

Post-durian, we walked over to a nearby café and shared a light lunch of nasi lemak, laksa Sarawak, coconut jelly, and cendol. By the time we left at around 1pm, the durian stall was packed with fellow durian lovers, all willing to pay a premium for the assurance of pesticide-free, quality durians.

Surprisingly, I didn’t get a sore throat or any tummy discomfort after the durian indulgence. My throat and stomach are very sensitive, so this was a good sign—the durians were truly clean and chemical-free.

To balance out the heatiness, we stopped by to buy fresh coconut water on the way home, which I popped into the freezer for a quick chill. It was the perfect antidote to the durian heat.

And here’s the kicker—before we even left the house, I had already enjoyed Musang King and Tekka durians that hubby brought back on Saturday. When durian season hits, it’s pretty normal for me to have durians for breakfast and post-lunch dessert! 😄

What a deliciously indulgent Sunday it was—just me, hubby, and the King of Fruits.
