The start of the week brought a mix of relief and celebration for my daughter, Cass. After a grueling three-hour session for the Pearson Test of English (PTE) online competition, she received her score: a remarkable 82 out of 90. This places her firmly in the “Advanced” range of the PTE Academic scoring scale, which is an incredible testament to her English proficiency. We won’t know if she will win anything in the competition until early September, but this score itself is a huge victory.
Cass’s focus has already shifted to her next big challenge: the SPM Trials, which also begin in early September. She’s been studying incredibly hard, demonstrating a discipline that’s truly inspiring. Amidst all the academic pressure, she’s also committed to her physical and mental well-being, never missing a day of working out and always trying to eat healthy.
However, there’s one area of her life that she neglects, much to my constant concern: her sleep hygiene. Every time I remind her to get enough rest, I’m met with that classic “I know what I’m doing, Mum” look, a mix of exasperation and determination. All I can do is pray that she stays healthy, both physically and mentally, as she navigates this intense period from now until her SPM exams wrap up on December 23rd.
In the midst of all this academic intensity, I’m looking forward to a bit of a break myself. Tomorrow, I’m having a potluck lunch with friends I haven’t seen in years. I’m so excited to catch up and share stories.
Wishing everyone a happy weekend!
