There’s a special kind of joy that comes from slipping behind the wheel of your own car after being without it for a while. Today, that joy is mine. After a long and inconvenient week, my car is finally back from the mechanic’s shop. Its body is covered in a fine layer of dust, a testament to its stay, and a trip to the car wash is first on tomorrow’s agenda. But for now, I’m just happy to hear its familiar purr.

The past 7 days, however, were a lesson in patience and adaptation. My usual quick errands turned into planned expeditions. The biggest challenge? My daily lunch run. For most mornings, I found myself walking a solid half-hour under the relentless, blazing sun to get a meal. By the time I arrived back at my doorstep, sweat-drenched and flushed, I was ready for my second shower of the day. It was, undoubtedly, an inconvenience.

But a funny thing happened on those sunny walks. Amid the initial complaints in my head, I started to notice a shift. The sun, which I’d been so quick to curse, began to feel less like an adversary and more like a charger. I realized that by the time I got home, I didn’t feel tired or sleepy —I felt awake. The mental fog that often lingers from a morning indoors had been burned away. My mood was lighter, my thoughts were clearer. It was as if the sunlight was recharging my internal batteries, giving a genuine boost to both my mental and physical health.

Of course, I’m not reckless about it! My non-negotiable ritual before stepping out was to slather on sunscreen with at least SPF 50 all over my face and limbs. A healthy glow is one thing; sun damage is another. And a glow I did get—after a week of this routine, my skin is definitely a tone tanner. A free tan? I’ll take it as a bonus!

As I settle back into the convenience of having a car, my mind is on bigger journeys than just my lunch run. Today, I have to transfer almost RM20,000 for Sherilyn’s new semester fees. This week marks the start of her second year studying architecture. Just two more years to go for her!

It feels like a major milestone. With Alycia graduating soon, Sherilyn halfway through, and only my youngest, Cass, left to go after Sherilyn, I can finally see the shoreline. For any parent funding their children’s education, it feels like you’re swimming in a vast ocean, sometimes against rough waves. But now, the land is within my view. The finish line isn’t just a dream; it’s a destination I’m steadily approaching.

So, I’ll take the quiet clarity from those sunny walks and channel it right back into working hard, earning the moolah for my daughters’ futures. The temporary inconvenience of the last week was a small price to pay for a renewed sense of purpose and a surprising dose of sunshine for my soul.

The road ahead is clear: work hard, support my girls, and dream of the travels to come. I can’t wait for the day they’ve both graduated and I can finally, truly, travel the world!

My must-have everyday – a bowl of low-fat & sugar-free yogurt with soaked chia seeds, freshly grated coconut, and Manuka honey.
