A Sweet Celebration and a Near RM50 Parking Ticket Escape!

Last week marked a special milestone—Cass officially completed her final day of high school. After years of hard work, exams, stress, and late-night studying, she wanted to celebrate this moment with something simple yet meaningful: lunch with me at her favourite restaurant, La Juiceria. It really wasn’t easy for her to study in a very competitive Chinese Independent High School, as her first language is English, and both her parents are yellow bananas 😜

And of course, she got her wish.

Last Friday, I took her there for lunch. As usual, she ordered her all-time favourite high-protein plate: grilled chicken breast, poached egg, grilled pumpkin, broccoli, brown rice, and garbanzo beans. Healthy, clean, and very “Cass”. I ordered something similar, but mine came with kale for that extra leafy goodness with no rice.

After lunch, we headed for a quick grocery run. And knowing my ice-cream lover, she had to walk out of the supermarket with a tub of chocolate ice-cream. Celebration isn’t complete without dessert, right?

But the real adventure happened the next day, on a Saturday morning.

Cass woke up craving Subway’s steak sandwich, so off we went. I parked and was just getting out of the car when I spotted a Bandaraya officer snapping photos of parked cars. My heart nearly dropped—my car was right next to a car that was already getting a ticket! The lady driver ran out of the bakery, begging the officer to spare her, but the officer apologized and said she was a little too late, as he had already taken a photo of her car and the ticket was already printed.

I rushed to pay parking on the TNG eWallet app on my phone, but of course… I hadn’t used it in ages. I forgot where to pay, and to make things worse, I had to re-enter my NEW car plate number because the last time I used this app was last year with my old car. There I was, fumbling on my phone, sweating and praying.

I quickly got out of the car and explained to the officer that I was trying to pay, but I just wasn’t sure how to navigate the app. Thankfully, he was kind enough to give me a few minutes. After scrambling through the app like a confused auntie, I finally managed to pay—and escaped a RM50 ticket!

This brought back a painful memory: a few years ago at the exact same spot, I dashed out of the car for just five minutes to grab buns for Cass at the bakery. When I returned, my car’s tyre was clamped and I had to pay RM150 to get it released. That day, I nearly fainted on the spot.

So escaping the RM50 parking ticket felt like a huge victory. Considering my recent streak of bad luck, I was convinced the ticket was coming. But thank God, I was spared this time. Phew! LOL!

Small celebration, funny panic moments, and lots of mother-daughter bonding—just the way we love it.

    1. Hi Liv
Cass is in the midst of her SPM now. The exam will last 2 months, ending 23/12/25.
After the exam, I guess she will work part-time while waiting for the results 🙂
