Our Unexpected CNY Eve Food Hunt

On the eve of CNY, we did something a little different.
My dad insisted on staying home to cook our reunion dinner, while my older brother and his family opted for takeaway Japanese bentos at home.

So my younger brother, mum and I went out on a food hunt instead. It was a scorching afternoon and Roy and I were determined to find a nice air-conditioned restaurant. Most places were closed, but just when we were about to give up, we spotted a Chinese restaurant that was open.

We were so glad we went in. Everything we ordered was delicious — pork lard + minced pork wantan noodles, duck and siew yoke wantan noodles, and premium fish porridge. The kumquat (preserved lime) drink was refreshing, and I loved my sugar-free cincau drink too.

We’ll definitely be back to try more from the menu the next time Roy comes home to Ipoh for a holiday.
