Sunday Funday At Section 17, PJ, Again

For the third week in a row, Sunday brunch found us in the heart of Petaling Jaya, specifically in the vibrant food haven of Section 17. This area is a goldmine for food lovers, boasting an incredible variety of delicious hawker stalls, cozy cafes, and fantastic restaurants. Last Sunday’s visit was prompted by my husband’s visiting aunt from Taiwan, who had a serious craving for Char Koay Teow and anything koay teow. Naturally, my husband knew just the place to satisfy her craving.

We headed to Lucky Seng Coffeeshop, located right next to the famous Wah Cheong coffee shop (opposite Seventeen Mall), where the popular pork noodles stall is. This no-frills kopitiam is a true gem. My husband ordered five plates of Char Koay Teow, each with a generous serving of extra prawns and Chinese lap cheong. At just RM15 per plate, it was an absolute steal considering the abundance of fresh prawns and savory sausages. The CKT was a masterpiece—perfectly cooked with that smoky, essential “wok hei” that makes all the difference. He also couldn’t resist ordering two plates of chee cheong fun, and a bowl of pork intestines + pork ribs pepper soup, which was incredibly delish.

Our food adventure didn’t stop there. After a satisfying meal, we took a short walk to Blue Dahlia, a place we’d visited just three weeks prior. We went back for a very specific reason: to get some authentic Nyonya kuih for his aunt. The vibrant colors and rich flavors of their traditional treats are simply irresistible.

From there, our carb-fueled journey continued with a visit to Kwong Wah, a legendary spot known for its cooling desserts. We indulged in bowls of icy ice kacang, creamy cendol, and fragrant bubur cha cha. The contrast of sweet, cold desserts with the savory crunch of their famous fruit rojak and fried prawn fritters was the perfect ending to our feast.

It was a day full of carbs, from savory noodles to sweet kuih and icy desserts. But that’s our philosophy for a balanced life: one day of blissful indulgence in “sinful” food, and the rest of the week dedicated to eating clean and healthy.

Tomorrow is Sunday again, and a question lingers in my mind: will my husband take us back to our beloved Section 17? Given the endless delicious options and our collective love for good food, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

Refreshing cendol, ice kacang and bubur cha cha @ Kwong Wah, Section 17, PJ. So colorful, so yummy, so ‘santan’-ish, so icy cold. We all loved these desserts.
