Many years ago when we were in school, when we labelled someone as a geek, it meant you’re someone who’s boring and unfashionable. But these days, being a geek can mean you’re very knowledgeable about a particular subject or hobby, which is something that’s positive.  And there’s absolutely nothing degrading about that.
