FollowThere is a new bakery in Bercham that cake lovers, especially fans of JJ Swissrolls may want to check out. JJ Extra Bakery officially opened on 19 February 2026, which was the 3rd day of Chinese New Year.
This outlet is the sister branch of the well-known JJ Cakes & Swiss Rolls located in Ipoh town. Many Ipoh residents would already be familiar with their famous swiss rolls and chiffon cakes, which have been popular for many years. Their cempedak swiss rolls are one of the most popular and viral swiss rolls that people would queue up for.
What makes the Bercham outlet even better for us is its location. Since it is much closer to our home, we now find ourselves dropping by this branch instead of driving all the way to town.
When we stepped into the bakery, we were greeted by rows and rows of beautifully displayed cakes. The variety is quite impressive. Besides their well-known swiss rolls and chiffon cakes, the new outlet also offers breads, pastries, and even ice-cream cakes. The prices are also quite reasonable, and the quality, as always, is very fresh.
For more than 10 years, our family has been faithfully buying their cempedak swiss roll. It has always been our favourite. But this time, I felt like trying something different. With so many flavours available, it honestly took me quite a while to decide.
In the end, I chose a yam with coconut swiss roll and a pandan + coffee chiffon cake.
The yam coconut swiss roll turned out to be absolutely delicious. The cake was soft and pillowy, with a very light texture. Inside was a fragrant filling of pandan-flavoured grated coconut paired with light cream, which complemented the yam perfectly. It was not overly sweet and had a very pleasant aroma.
With so many tempting options at the counter, I am quite sure this will not be my last visit. I am already looking forward to going back to try some of their other flavours.
Another convenient thing about this bakery is that you can call ahead to pre-order cakes, something my parents have been doing for years whenever they order birthday cakes for my daughters and me.
If you enjoy fresh cakes and swiss rolls, this new outlet in Bercham might be worth a visit.
